The Grammar School At Leeds

The Grammar School at Leeds is the result of an ongoing merger between Leeds Grammar School (founded 1552) and Leeds Girls’ High School (founded 1876). The merger is due to be complete by September 2008 following building work to extend the existing facilities at Alwoodley Gates (the current site of Leeds Grammar School).  As a result the pupil population at Alwoodley Gates will increase from approximately 1400 to well over 2000s.  Part of this expansion programme requires that the existing security services at the school require assessment and augmentation to integrate and expand the current provisions into the new buildings.  Advanced Security Partners Ltd is appointed by Leeds Grammar School Charitable Trust to work closely with the school and the Project Managers and Cost Consultants, Turner & Townsend, to review the existing security systems and recommend how these can be utilised and enhanced to create a secure envelope for the school.

Advanced Security Partners Ltd met with the school management and undertook numerous site surveys to identify particular areas of weakness with regard to the existing security on site.  Reviews were undertaken to establish the effectiveness of current security measures at identified areas of concern and to evaluate the existing security equipment and procedures to determine suitability for any proposed security enhancements and the implications resulting from the new building extension works.  Liaison with the school management and personnel identified how the school currently operates with regards to student, staff and vehicle movement, taking into account daytime and out of hours usage.

Although it is not possible for the School to attain Secured By Design accreditation due to the existing building not meeting the standard criteria, Advanced Security Partners Ltd liaised with the local Architectural Liaison Officer with regards to how the School could adopt good crime prevention measures in line with Secured By Design requirements.

Advanced Security Partners Ltd produced a report detailing their findings and recommendations as to how the security could be enhanced.  Technologies and security principles were identified that met with the Client’s requirements such as access control, vehicular control, CCTV and access restriction by time or gated entrances.
